When should I arrive at the spa?

We encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes early in order for you to get the most from your spa visit and to avoid being late for your booked treatments. If this is your first visit to Plumyumi, then you will be asked to complete client information forms to ensure you receive the highest level of care and accommodations aligning with your individual needs and requirements. Take this opportunity to inform the staff of any medical or skin conditions you have in advance. There are some treatments which are not suitable for those with certain medical conditions or skin ailments. The information you provide will be kept entirely confidential and only viewed by your specific therapist or technician.

What can I expect during my spa treatments?

All spa treatments start with a consultation. The therapist or technician will review your client information form and will ask you specific questions for clarification in order to best cater the treatment to your specific needs. The therapist or technician should then talk you through the stages of the treatment, explaining the purpose and benefits of each.

Is there a place to store my valuables during my appointment?

We recommend that valuable items be left at home as Plumyumi Day Spa is not responsible for lost or stolen items.  Lost items will be kept in our Lost and Found for a period of 30 days. During this time, you may claim your lost item by providing a detailed description. We will make every effort to reunite you with your belongings.

Is tipping customary? How much should I tip?

While tipping between 15% and 20% is common practice for spa services, this is a matter of personal preference and is left up to each individual client. Tips should be left at reception, as opposed to being handed directly to therapist or technician. Envelopes are available at the reception desk for your convenience.

Can I use my mobile phone at the spa?

We ask that mobile devices be turned off or silenced when in the relaxation rooms or the service areas. Not only is observance of this policy considerate of other spa clients, it will serve to enhance your own personal relaxation experience as well.

Do I have to talk during my spa treatments?

The extent of conversation is primarily up to you. Our staff members are trained to recognize when a client wants to be silent and simply enjoy their treatment. However, you should ensure you communicate clearly with your therapist throughout your treatments – if they are massaging you too hard, for example, you will want to make this clear so they can change the pressure applied. Do not simply sit through any process you find uncomfortable just because you are in the hands of an expert.

What happens after my services/treatment(s) are complete?

At the conclusion of your service and/or treatment, your therapist/technician may recommend various products for purchase to as part of your continued “home” regimen of treatment. While we are confident that such recommendations and the products we offer are of the highest quality, please understand that you are not obligated to purchase these products.

Before leaving Plumyumi, we encourage you to browse through our boutique or spend additional moments of quietude in one of our relaxation rooms.

Is shaving recommended before my appointment?

Shaving is NOT recommended right before your appointment. Shaving the morning of your appointment is okay, but if you have a morning appointment scheduled, then the night before is preferred. A 24-hour period between shaving and services greatly reduces your risk of irritation or infection from open wounds on the skin..

For women, when it comes to leg shaving and body massages, wraps and/or scrubs, it is usually recommended that you shave at least two hours prior to your appointment. Similar advice is given to men undergoing facials. Having a treatment shortly after shaving can be particularly problematic and cause some level of discomfort or irritation.
